Garage Door Questions, Answered Plain
How to Reach Us
Call (706) 205-1351 if your door is stuck, the spring let go, or the opener is making a noise you don't like. We're at 2440 W Broad St, Athens, GA 30606, and that's a real shop address, not just a dispatch number. If you drive by with a bent track or a cable off the drum, you can stop in and show us what's wrong instead of trying to describe it over the phone.
We work on the mechanical stuff: springs, cables, rollers, tracks, openers, and panels. We don't do custom fabrication or decorative carriage-house builds from scratch - if you want something like that, we can tell you honestly it's outside what we do and point you toward a straightforward replacement instead.
When you call, have the brand on the opener if you can see it, and tell us if the door is a single or a double. That alone saves a trip for the wrong spring size. We'd rather ask two questions up front than show up with the wrong part on the truck.
Straight Answers
Most of the houses we work on went up between 1976 and 2012, with the bulk of that stock dating to the 1980s and 90s. That matters because doors and openers from that era use spring sizes and track widths that newer stock doesn't always stock on the shelf - sometimes we're ordering a part, not grabbing it.
Athens sits in a cold-moderate climate band, which means steel doors here need to handle real winter cold snaps alongside humid summers. That swing is hard on weatherstripping and on springs that cycle through temperature changes they weren't built for forty years ago. If your door feels heavier in January than in July, that's not in your head - cold steel and cold grease both move slower.
Across the service area there are roughly 14,673 owner-occupied houses out of 24,610 households, and a lot of those garage doors are original to the build. If yours has never been serviced, a worn roller or a spring near the end of its cycle count is common, not a sign something was installed wrong. Sometimes a repair is the right call. Sometimes the door's old enough, and banged up enough, that replacing it costs less over time than patching it again. We'll tell you which one we think you're looking at and why.
The Areas We Cover
We cover 19 named areas across the region, from Bogart nine miles out to Social Circle at twenty-nine. In between, that includes Nicholson, Arcade, North High Shoals, Statham, Russell, Good Hope, Commerce, Bethlehem, Pendergrass, Monroe, Maysville, Hoschton, Between, Auburn, Rutledge, and Braselton.
Distance matters for scheduling more than for whether we'll come - a call from Bogart or Statham fits easier between other jobs than one out past Homer or Social Circle, so if you're on the far edge of that list, expect us to ask about timing when you book rather than promise a same-hour arrival. We'd rather set that expectation up front than have you waiting on a truck that's still twenty-some miles out.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to fix a broken garage door spring?
We don't quote a flat number without seeing the door - torsion versus extension springs, single versus double door, and the age of the hardware all change the parts cost. Call (706) 205-1351 with the door size and whether it's one spring or two, and we can talk through it before we schedule anything.
Do you work on older garage doors or only newer ones?
We work on both. A lot of the housing stock here dates to the 1980s and 90s, so older torsion setups and discontinued track widths are routine for us, not a special case. If a part isn't stock-standard anymore, we'll tell you that and what the lead time looks like before you commit to the repair.
Is it worth repairing my door or should I just replace it?
Depends on the door. A worn roller or a snapped cable on an otherwise sound door is almost always a repair. A door that's rusted through, badly dented, or had three different problems in two years is usually cheaper to replace than to keep patching. We'll give you our honest read when we're looking at it in person.
Do you come out to areas outside Athens itself?
Yes - we cover towns out to about 29 miles, including Bogart, Statham, Monroe, Commerce, and others on our coverage list. Farther-out calls like Social Circle or Homer may take a bit more scheduling flexibility, so mention your town when you call so we can give you a realistic window.
What doesn't Athens Garage Door Pros handle?
We don't do custom decorative door fabrication or ground-up carriage house builds. If that's what you're after, we'll say so plainly rather than take the job and improvise. For repair, replacement, springs, openers, and tracks on standard residential doors, that's squarely what we do.
